Chiang Mai Thailand – The Best night Market in Thailand

Chiang Mai Thailand Night Market

Chiang Mai Thailand - Sunday Walking Street Market

Chiang Mai Sunday Market is one of our favourite markets in all of Thailand. After living in Thailand for several months we have visited our fair share of markets.

There’s nothing we love more than getting lost around streets of vendors, tucking into delicious street food, and exploring the handmade trinkets and garments for sale.

Here is everything you need to know before you visit Chiang Mai Sunday Market, where to eat, shop, when to go and everything in between.

Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market

Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market is like nothing you have seen. We expected just a normal market with a few street vendors and some yummy food. Luckily, we went hungry!

Chiang Mai Walking Street night market is one of Thailand’s biggest street markets. Hosting hundreds of vendors serving all kinds of street food, Thai dishes, and everything in between. Clothing and garment sellers, instruments, nick-nacks and trinkets you can buy anything here!

The Market is huge and easy to get lost, but that was the fun part. Just remember to drop a pin on your google maps so you know where to walk back to or find your bike!

Opening Hours

The Market is open every Sunday from 4pm until midnight. Majority of the crowds accumulate around 7pm to 10pm.

We visited during these hours and it was very busy but the atmosphere was great. Live music filled the street and delicious food filled the air. We were ready to get lost in the market and eat our body weight in street food.

How to get to Chiang Mai Sunday Market

Located within the old town walls, the market is very easy to find.

Situated along the main Ratchadomnoen Road from the ThaPae Gate, you cannot miss it. The road is closed to traffic, but you will see hundreds of bikes and parking spaces to park up and explore.

Just remember to mark your pin on your maps so you can get home later!

What to Expect

Like we said, the market is huge.

Drawing in a massive diverse crowd of locals and travellers alike. You will really get to immerse yourself in culture and a great social scene.

The Market is (sort of) sectioned off into areas. The food vendors are all in a similar area and the clothing and trinket stalls grouped together also.

We wandered around the market stalls browsing silk scarves, pearl necklaces, burnt wood carvings and fridge magnets before we devoured the street vendor scene.

We have so many videos and posts about Thai food because we just can’t get enough!

I mean that’s the main reason of travelling right? To try new foods and cultures.

Budget - Eco Resort Chiang Mai

This Resort was a great stop off for our time in Chiang Mai. I was unwell our first week there an spent the whole time in bed. The building is a renovated old school building and the rooms feel like dormitories. The bathrooms are shared but the facilities are great, clean, and comfortable. The pool is great and huge! It is a little out of town so you would need a bike to get around but it was great for us for our first week whilst we found our feet in Chiang Mai.

This is where we stayed for 3 weeks in Chiang Mai and loved it. The rooms are huge and all have private bathrooms. We loved the intimate feel of the hotel and the quiet tranquil pool. We met some great people here and the location is great for sight-seeing and for restaurants and stores.
